Report of the Field Visit to Jiangxi Orphanages

By Zhou Bo - September 21-26, 2005

On September 21-26 Amity's Zhou Bo and Yang Xiao made field visits to orphanages in Yingtan, Hengfeng, Shangrao and Nanchang in the Jiangxi Province.  Their report from each orphanage is below.

  A Visit to Shangrao...

Hugging Granny Project:

The director informed us that the Amity Grandma project has enabled better care and medical treatment to be given to the orphans.

With respect to medical needs, the doctor and nurses are now able to give the children proper treatment in time and save medical expenses in the hospital.

The Amity Grandmas are also helping children in the infant room and one tutor is also helping the students after school in the orphanage.

Foster Care Project:

Most of the foster children are living in Yingjiafang village. When we visited them, all of the foster families had been called together for a meeting in the center of the village. They were very familiar with each other and talked about their foster children with each other.

School Tuition Project:

Since we visited on a Saturday, the school children in foster care were asked to go to the orphanage to be with those children living in the orphanage.

We met the children at the orphanage in the morning.

They were very glad to know that the gifts they had requested before would be bought for them.

When we went back in the afternoon, they were very glad to receive the gifts that they had asked for. Two children were especially excited to have received Harry Potter books!
